The Social Media Success Summit did it again! Mari Smith, one of the most caring persons I’ve met in the social media world – and I haven’t even bought anything from her (yet),  kicked off the sessions for the SMSS with an enlightening presentation on FaceBook.

She was followed by Jason Alba who gave some real eye-openers on how to use LinkedIn as a marketing tool. Then, Ann Handley followed with her input about Twitter. This last was a bit disappointing —> Ann, it was tooooo short!

I’ll be giving you more of what I found especially useful for this website over the next few days (my left hand still hasn’t gotten used to the fact that it is the sole instrument for typing, as well as everything else…. it rebels.)

Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV gave the keynote address at this year’s “Social Media Summit 2009“.  This is the first time I’ve heard him speak and his enthusiasm & passion is contigious.

However, when I first read the blurb about Gary & Wine Library I wondered why the organizers had chosen this man, a wine merchant, to give the keynote at a virtual social media conference….

Of course, in the write-up Gary’s feat of  bringing his family’s wine retail business from US$4 million a year to about $50 million through the virtual worlds of Facebook &Twitter had been highlighted… but I still asked myself: Why a wine salesman?

Listening to Gary’s most unusual talk completely changed my opinion!

He touched on 4 important elements which I think are vital, especially for being online (despite his language):

1. do what you are passionate about.
2. be who you are.
3. be transparent.
4. really have something to say, i.e., know your content.

What do you think? Post your comments. Thanks.
