People who are setting up a website and/or blog OR who are seeking a more user-friendly way to create and maintain a website. Often ask about the difference between these two platforms that share the same name but not the same ending…. What’s the difference?

Well, there is a significant difference between the two – particularly if you want your website and/or blog to be a marketing tool for your business or if you want to set up an online business.

Christina Hills has posted a great video and will be hosting a free Q&A webinar this evening just to address this question.

Why Get On The Social Media?

Posted by: Eileen | Comments (0)

Are you on Facebook? Do you have a Twitter account or accounts? Are you part of the Social Media Revolution?

Like it or not, things are changing…. are we part of that change in how we relate to one another or are we holding on to what went before? Are we in touch with the present radial shift in communications or are we burying our heads hoping it will all go away and peole will stop inviting us to become “friends” on Facebook?

Talking to a friend of mine today, I was rather surprised to discover that not only is she not on Facebook or Twitter – she’s not even interested!  “I like to write to people individually or phone them!” she told me, “Why should I write something that everyone can read?”

She has a point. That is the way we used to do it and we feel comfortable with that. In “the good ol’ days” we were communicating person to person or face to face. And these tools: emailing, phoning (ah, letter writing – when was the last time you wrote a letter???) still have their purpose. But what I have found is that Facebook, and Twitter in particular, as well as the other social media give me, an individual, the opportunity to communicate through broadcasting.

(Remember only radio, TV, and newspapers used to be able to broadcast, that is, go from one source or font to many listeners, viewers, readers.)

However, now, we individuals, can each “broadcast” our news with all those who follow us AND these records of our messages, especially on Twitter, go online and become accessible to all who search on the internet!  I really find this mind-blowing! We are no longer “islands” inhabitating our own tiny patch of Mother Earth – With the social media we can now network with thousands of people all over the world – basically all at the same time!

(However, the dynamics of building a relationship, getting to know the person or people we are communicating with, doesn’t change.)

Personally, I can’t see how anyone can not be on the social media!

Perhaps you’re thinking that this is just a fad and it will pass away soon as other fads have.

Interestingly, I found a tweet (a short message on Twitter) today from one of the people I follow,
Cindy King, on Twitter about this very topic.

Her link led to a video by Erik Qualman called “The Social Media Revolution”.

I found it a very thought-provoking video.

Take a look at it and then post your thoughts in the comment box. Let’s talk!

Different Ways to Get Online

Posted by: Eileen | Comments (0)

I am using WordPress which allows me to have posts and pages. So, if you look up to the top you’ll see that I have started adding pages: Easiest, Easier…

On these pages I want you to see that you have choices in what kind of system/platform you use.  Some platforms are easier to use than others.  The ones I have selected and the degree of difficulty are based on my experience.

Have you tried any of these?  What has been your experience? How easy or difficult do you find them?  Let us know.  Take a minute and share your opinion and experience by filling in the comment box below.

Hi and Welcome!  As you can see this blog/website is being born!

I am a communicator & English as a Second or Foreign Language (EFL/ESL/ESOL) coach by profession. I initially explored website & blog creation so that I could help my students via this online medium.

As I shared what I was learning, I realized that many of the people I talked with were not aware of the many innovations of Web 2.0 that now make it so easy – and enjoyable – to create a website &/or blog. Also most people did not know how to start up an online/internet marketing site.

So, since I have been gathering and preparing a wide variety of information on the various aspects of creating and maintaining a blog and/or a website. I decided to set up this WordPress website with blog and share what I have learned.  (And if you wish, help you set up the basics for online or internet marketing.)

My principal goal is to make this process E-A-S-Y for you!  I want you to find website and blog creation, as well as online marketing, easy and enjoyable !

Why? Because it should be! We’re in Web 2.0!

Technological advances are stream-lining the process and taking the pain and frustration out of being online.

I initially found it very difficult, frustrating, time and money consuming.  However, with experience, time and the great people I’ve met online, I’ve been able to find easier ways to get a website and blog up and running….

So, if you’re interested, I want to share with you the information and experiences I gained from these people, books, courses and webinars I’ve met in the virtual world.  And as you move through this site you’ll find links to these people with their books and courses, just in case you’re interested in learning about these things in greater depth.

With regards to my post & pages, my aim is to write in clear, simple, plain English so that whether you are a senior citizen or are learning English as a second or foreign language – you, too, can have access to the benefits of Web 2.0 website, blog & online market creation.

Also, I will try to answer your questions on how to easily create a blog or website, as well as respond to your queries about setting up your site or blog for online teaching &/or marketing.

So, why don’t you take a second, make a comment by giving me your most important question about easily creating a blog or website.

I’ll try to answer them soon in the various posts.  And hopefully, all of you reading these pages will share your own experiences and best practices in creating websites and blogs.

So, thanks and I look forward to chatting with you!
